Concert Band Opportunity

    Normally, we don't share public school opportunities here, just because there are usually alternatives out and about in our community or churches.

    However, as far as we can tell, an opportunity for concert band is not available, unless a student plays a stringed instrument and can join the Douglas County Youth Orchestra.

    Branden Hansen, the band director at Roseburg High School, is responsible for overseeing and instructing several jazz bands, concert bands, and percussion ensembles.  He notes that school policies do allow for homeschooled students to participate in band classes at RHS.  He is offering that opportunity to any homeschooled students who may be interested in joining a concert band or the other groups he conducts.

    Mr. Hansen and his sister were both homeschooled for a time, and he sees great value in that approach to education.  He would love to help offer increased musical opportunities to homeschooled students in our area. Over the past few years, he has had a handful of homeschool students participate in his bands with great success. If there is any interest, please contact him.
